Sarah Carr Opposes Tuition Fee Increase

There are now less than eight months to save a new generation of young people and often their parents from huge increases in debt from university tuition fees, according to the Liberal Democrat candidate for Hereford and South Herefordshire, Sarah Carr.
The Conservative party has suggested University tuition fees could be increased to £7,000 if they take power at the next general election, which has to be held by June 2010. Labour is considering allowing universities to charge more than the present £3,300 cap if they are re-elected. In comparison the Liberal Democrats have pledged to abolish University tuition fees as soon as possible.
Commenting Sarah Carr said,
"Education is vital to our future prosperity, not something to be rationed for students according to how much money their parents have. Young people should not be saddled with a lifetime of debt for getting an education.
"To give Herefordshire's youth the greatest chance, more should be done to allow them to fulfil their ambitions and develop their talents. In such times of recession, hard-working parents and students should not be put off from a University education by the prospect of increasing levels of fees and debt."
Sarah Carr chaired the higher education funding fringe debate at Liberal Democrat Party Conference this autumn.
