Sarah Carr, the Liberal Democrat Parliamentary candidate for Hereford, Ross and South Herefordshire, has responded to proposals laid out by widely respected Liberal Democrat Treasury spokesman Vince Cable on cutting the budget deficit and cementing economic recovery. Vince Cable's proposals include scrapping the costly ID card scheme, scrapping the renewal of Trident and reducing civil service bonuses.

Sarah Carr said:

"With huge levels of public debt brought about by the government having to bail out reckless banks, the time has come for concrete proposals to tighten the purse strings and cut public spending. The fiscal crisis that we face requires straight-talking with strong and decisive action and this is exactly what Vince Cable has proposed.

"Whilst the Conservatives and the Labour party are shadow boxing over their limited ideas, the Liberal Democrats are coming out with concrete proposals on where public spending cuts can be made without doing irreversible damage to essential public services."
