Cutting Waste in Public Services: Sarah Carr calls on local people for their expertise and knowledge
11.18.08am BST (GMT +0100) Fri 4th Sep 2009
Sarah Carr, the Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Candidate for Hereford and South Herefordshire, has backed the launch of a campaign to ask public servants across the country where they think wasteful spending in the public sector can be cut. The campaign led by Nick Clegg, Leader of the Liberal Democrat party, calls on valued public servants to say where they think that money can be saved without damaging the quality of essential services.
Sarah Carr said:
"The effects of the global recession will hit the budgets of essential public services and local Councils. Our hard-working teachers, care assistants, librarians, social workers and public sector employees are the people with the most experience, the best knowledge and the strongest awareness of how their sectors work and what needs to be done. If they can share their knowledge on where they think money can be saved then perhaps difficult decisions can be made less painful.
"Both the Labour government and Conservative-controlled Herefordshire council have a dreadful record on wasting money and inefficiency. Without the input of those in the know, there is a great risk that more local and national government cuts will be made in the wrong place. This is why I fully support Nick Clegg's campaign to ask our public servants to share the wisdom of their expertise. I want to know where they think we can cut waste, not jobs and essential services."
