Peterchurch Fire Station Open Day Success1.48.41pm BST (GMT +0100) Mon 13th Jul 2009
Sarah Carr, Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Candidate for Hereford and South Herefordshire, attended Peterchurch Fire Station Open Day on Sunday 12th July. At the Open Day Sarah met with local retained Firefighters, operational staff and residents discussing local issues from how to combat speeding in the village to the vital role of retained Firefighters in our communities. Sarah Carr said, "Herefordshire's retained Firefighters, officers and operational staff perform a vital role in our communities saving peoples lives and increasingly improving community well-being. "I attend as many fetes and community events as I possibly can in Hereford, Ross and across South Herefordshire, more often than not with my family, so that I can find out exactly what the issues and concerns of local people are and how I can help. At nearly every school, village or community fete we attend local fire crews are also there providing friendly commonsense safety advice and giving delighted kids and adults the chance to have a climb inside the fire engines. Our Firefighters are at the heart of our communities. "My family and I really enjoyed the Peterchurch Fire Station Open Day. It was informative with demonstrations of the latest high tech equipment as well as stands offering information, lovely local produce and games." Earlier this year, Sarah Carr worked with West Midlands MEP Liz Lynne campaigning to ensure that retained Firefighters were not stopped from doing their vital jobs by the European Working Time Directive. The Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service has 328 full time operational staff, 369 retained Firefighters and officers, 25 Fire Control staff and 142 support staff.
