Open Farm Sunday in Herefordshire9.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Mon 8th Jun 2009
White Haywood Farm in Craswell, Herefordshire was one of 400 farms across the UK that took part in Open Farm Sunday on 7th June. Local farmers Philip and Pauline Goodwin opened up their working family farm in the foothills of the Black Mountains giving guided tours of their farm to see the animals, machinery and work carried out through environmental stewardship. Local Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Candidate Sarah Carr took part in Open Farm Sunday, visiting White Haywood Farm with her family to demonstrate her support for our Herefordshire farmers. Sarah said, "Open Farm Sunday provides a behind the scenes look at real life on a farm. In fact whilst the farmer Philip was out in the fields showing a group of visitors around the farm his wife Pauline, who runs their restaurant and bed and breakfast business, was called on to help deliver a calf! "Open Farm Sunday is a very enjoyable way to hear about how our food is produced and how our countryside is cared for. It also gives an understanding of the increasing pressure on farmers from regulation and paperwork and the demand for cheap food."
