Local Liberal Democrat parliamentary campaigner Sarah Carr is backing an innovative idea to save our remaining Post Offices - a 'Post Bank' to be run as part of the Post Office Network. The Post Bank proposal has come from a national coalition of pensioner and pressure groups, business organisations, trade unions and charities. Commenting on the comprehensive proposal Sarah said,
"With the credit crunch causing a loss of confidence in both banks and bankers, the time has never been better to create a Post Bank.
"Post Bank could offer safe, reliable banking services for business and individual customers alike through the large post office network. It could help secure the future of thousands of Post Offices still under threat of future closure, create as many as 11,000 new jobs, help restore confidence in the banking system and provide a banking service to thousands who do not have a high street bank account.
"For the Post Office, Post Bank would help to put it back on a secure and profitable long term footing for all our benefits."
