Local health campaigner and Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Candidate Sarah Carr has welcomed news that the government has dropped its controversial plans to restrict GP surgeries from dispensing prescription medication as detailed in a Pharmacy White Paper in the wake of stiff opposition from Ministers and the public.
"This appears to be a substantial breakthrough for retaining a much-valued service in rural areas such as Herefordshire. It is very good news as there was overwhelming opposition to the plans which were a real threat to rural life and a great worry to our elderly population. I am very pleased that common sense has prevailed."
Further announcements regarding the government's Pharmacy White Paper will be made in the New Year.
