Sarah Carr is backing Vince Cable's pledge to cut income tax for low and middle earning families. This will be made up by fairer taxing of polluting companies and the very rich.

Sarah Carr, local Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Campaigner, is backing the Four Point Plan of Liberal Democrat Shadow Chancellor Vince Cable MP to help families during the current economic crisis.

Sarah said,

"Many families are facing a difficult winter with rising mortgage bills, fear of losing jobs and high heating costs. When the bankers got in trouble, they were rescued by our money. Millions of families must not be left to fend for themselves - they must be helped too."

Under a Liberal Democrat Government with Vince Cable as Chancellor of the Exchequer the Liberal Democrats would:

1. Cut taxes for people on low and middle incomes funded by proposals such clamping down on tax avoidance.

2. Lower energy bills so people can afford to heat their homes by changing the billing and subsidy rules. Wholesale fuel prices have dropped 28% since August - the energy companies must pass on these price cuts to people.

3. Ensure banks only ever repossess a person's home as a last resort after all alternatives including renegotiating mortgage terms have been exhausted. The Liberal Democrats would also allow housing associations to buy up unsold properties to provide more affordable housing for people who need them.

4. Cut interest rates to help people and businesses pay off their loans and mortgages.

"As a result of these measures, the impact of the credit crunch on people in Herefordshire can be reduced at a time when everyone is starting to feel the pinch."
