Following the news that Gordon Brown has decided not to hold a general election this autumn, Liberal Democrat parliamentary candidate for Hereford and South Herefordshire Sarah Carr said:
"Gordon Brown should have called an election when he took office. Following the 'will he won't he' charade of the last few weeks, people will think the Prime Minister has lost his nerve. It follows the mishandled trip to Iraq which upset many people, including the announcement on troop numbers which turned out not to be all it seemed."
Sarah Carr was selected as the Liberal Democrat parliamentary candidate in March this year following Paul Keetch MP's decision not to stand for election again. Sarah Carr was Paul Keetch's agent and campaign manager in 1997 when he was first elected as MP for Hereford. Sarah lives in Hereford with her family.
Commenting on the readiness of the Liberal Democrats to fight and retain the Hereford and South Herefordshire constituency local campaigner Sarah Carr said:
"The Liberal Democrats are ready to fight and win the general election here in Hereford and South Herefordshire whenever it is called. It is a straight fight here between the Liberal Democrats and the Conservatives. I will continue to work with our Liberal Democrat MP Paul Keetch campaigning on issues that affect local residents.
The farce of the last few weeks highlights that it would be truly in the country's best interests to have fixed term parliaments - not allowing the date of the general election to be at the whim of the Prime Minister irrespective of political party. The Prime Minister should put the interests of the country ahead of his political party."
