Herefordshire Lib Dems call for enquiry into the Rotherwas Ribbon

10.51.14pm BST (GMT +0100) Tue 24th Jul 2007

On Friday 27th at a meeting of Herefordshire Council, the Liberal Democrats will table a motion calling for an 'independent, external and exhaustive enquiry' into the 'Rotherwas Ribbon' archaeological site.

Lib Dem councillors will demand that no irreversible action is carried out on the site of the Ribbon until the enquiry is conducted. This will enable further study into the origin and extent of the find. Just as importantly, it will give time to find an answer to the question of its future.

Councillor Marcelle Lloyd-Hayes will propose the motion, with support from the Liberal Democrat group. "There is so much interest in the Rotherwas site, an enquiry into its origin must be held. I have spoken to people from across Herefordshire and the level of interest in the 'Rotherwas Ribbon' is truly staggering. As Liberal Democrats, we will fight to represent the views of everyone who cares about Herefordshire's heritage."
