Lib Dems Elected to Lead Hereford City Council12.00.00pm BST (GMT +0100) Thu 10th May 2007
Cllr Anna Toon and Cllr Marcelle Lloyd-Hayes were respectively elected as Leader and Deputy Leader of Hereford City Council. Following local parish elections, the Lib Dems lost overall control of the City Council but retained the highest number of seats. Cllr Anna Toon stated " It has been a tough election and now its time to get down to the business in hand in making Hereford City a better place to live and work. I was pleased to see cross party support for both myself and the Deputy Leader with multiple nominations coming forward for both positions and true democracy being demonstrated."
Cllr Lloyd-Hayes commented that "Myself and Cllr Toon have an inclusive approach in the way that we work and share a common commitment to the City and its residents, protecting citizens rights, chartered rights and improving the well being and opportunities for all. We will continue the work of the previous council in improving relationships with the County Council and other partners to maximise the benefits to residents and protect the heritage of this historic and vibrant City and welcome new ideas from the public on what they would like to see in the future." Any members of the public that would like to attend any of the City Council meetings can find the dates on the following website http://www.hereford.gov.uk/index.html
