Council Madness Continues for Madley1.47.22am GMT Thu 15th Feb 2007
Madley residents breathed a sigh of relief when it was announced that Council plans for a waste processing plant on their doorstep were being dropped. That relief might be short-lived, as Conservative and 'Independent' Councillors continue to negotiate for the deeply unpopular project to go ahead. After a bid by ESTECH was rejected, a reliable source has told us that our Tory Council is now in talks with an alternative company to build an identical plant, threatening the futures of Madley School, local businesses and residents of the area. Not only will the waste processor have to bring in waste from all of the West Midlands to be viable, it still has no identified buyers for the recycled products it would create! If a waste processor is to be built, it must be north of the Wye, where it will not add to Hereford's traffic trouble, where it could have a rail link and where it will be least noticeable. Why do the Conservatives and 'Independents' not agree? They are planning to add hundreds of waste trucks to the traffic bottleneck that often paralyses Belmont roundabout and road bridge. The LibDems oppose building a waste plant in Madley, full stop. We will not support these waste plant plans, as they do nothing to help make our county a greener place to live.
